On Saturday 10th September S.D.E. sponsored an all-comers XI (pictured below) in a charity cricket match hosted by Cople Argus Cricket Club. | ![]() |

Despite the lack of a summer this year, the weather was kind and both teams were able to complete their 30 overs. Cople ran out close winners in a competitive but fun game.
In the evening entertainment was supplied by Brian Johnston and a raffle was held, with first prize being kindly donated by The Five Bells, Cople. S.D.E's sponsorship, together with match subs and sales from the B-B-Q added up to £500 which will be donated to The Teenage Cancer Trust.
Many thanks to all players and officials, big thanks to Angela and Jon Relf and an extra special thanks to Jane and Chris Gregory for organising the event and the catering.
We are now stockists of Marshalls block paving, please call in or phone for competitive rates.

This year SDE continued their commitment to community sport by sponsoring Bedford Blues U16 tour to The Netherlands. We were happy to have supported the boys' kit, as pictured here in the special tour strip, with a nod to the hosts in the sock colour.
The events on pitch were very good with a 26-0 victory over the Dutch U16 National champions on Saturday. And runners up to another English team, Devonport Services, in an international tournament on Sunday.
An excellent time was had by all and a big thank you goes to Stephen Parker, for all of his hard work with this tour and community youth rugby in Bedford.
We are pleased to announce that we now offer plastic storage tanks and bunkers from QSS (Quality Storage Solutions).
We carry a full line of tanks ranging from single skin oil and water tanks to bunded tanks for the storage of oil, diesel and waste oil. All of our prices include VAT and delivery to the mainland of Britain.
To see the range, please press the Visit The SDE Environmental Online Store button at the top of the page or call us for more information on 01582 599055.
This year’s annual memorial to Dave was held on Friday 25th September at our usual venue of Wavendon Golf Club in Milton Keynes. The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed the conditions and the excellent weather. The main event was won by Kevin Mead but there was some very good scoring all round. The evening was rounded off with a splendid dinner and over £400 was raised for local children's wards.

A
big thank you to all of our customers and suppliers who contributed, so
generously to the sponsorship of director, Keith Moore, who recently took
part in the Great North Run for "Children with Leukaemia".
Customers: W. T. B. Construction, P. G. R. Construction, Durman Stearn, Admor Civils, Moulding Plant, J. M. E., Roddy and Reid, Ashvale Civils, J. J. Palmer, Marsh Construction and D. B. F. Construction.
Suppliers: Abacus–Leewell, Naylor Drainage, F. P. McCann and Marsh Industries.
All contributed, together with many individuals, to a total of over £3000 raised so far.
Thank you very much it is much appreciated!
It is with much pleasure that we announce the delivery of our new lorry. It is hoped that the investment in this new vehicle will not only help cut our carbon footprint but also improve our service and reduce down time and maintenance costs.
The
Isuzu 7.5 tonne curtainsider is not only 8 years newer (with lower emissions)
than the one it replaces but is also longer and will enable us to do more
drops on a run.
We will be getting the lorry sign written in our livery so you will be able to recognise us on the roads.
In
an attempt to constantly update our product portfolio we are pleased to
announce two new products to complement our existing range.
When replacing manhole covers speed is very important, which is why we have introduced two new products with this particular job in mind. PQ-X is a rapid hardening cement from Tarmac which has been widely specified and used at airport contracts up and down the country.
To find out more about PQ-X follow this link:
http://www.tarmac.co.uk/Cmspozament/PR_TimeFlies_210207.aspx
When
the repair is complete a small amount of tarmacadam is required to patch
in around the area. Again we have a product from Tarmac to complete this
job. Repair Master is available in handy 25kg cold applied tubs.
More information is available at:
http://www.tarmac.co.uk/asphalt/repairmaster.aspx
Both products are now in stock now at SDE for collection or delivery.
So next time you are ordering manhole covers and frames remember we now have all the ancillary products you need to complete the job.
Following the success of last year’s S.D.E. sponsored football tour to Amsterdam. We are pleased to announce the completion of the 2008 tour, this year to the beautiful island of Madeira. With S.D.E. currently trying to forge commercial links with companies on the Portuguese island, it seemed like an excellent idea to take up the opportunity of a football tour there also.

This year we took on the local services, including Police and Fire department and on a warm, sunny morning on a seaside pitch in Funchal we were beaten by a well organised, and dare I say younger and fitter, local team. This was followed by a Gala lunch, hosted by Tony Camacho, of the Vila Camacho, who put us up for the duration of our stay and looked after us Royally.
Many thanks to all the participating players and special thanks to Tony, Helen, Vincent, Eden and Maya for their hospitality. We now hope to make this an annual event.
This year’s Dave Whitfield memorial golf tournament was held in on Friday the 26th of September, at its now familiar surroundings of Wavendon in Milton Keynes. It doesn’t matter how much you prepare for these events, you cannot do anything about the great British weather. This year was our turn to have a break and the sun shone all day.
A good day was had by all the 30 players and extra evening guests and the winner of the main event was Paul Neale of PGN groundworks. However, as usual, the real winner was the Keech Cottage Hospice, who will receive a cheque for the £500.00 pounds raised on the day.
Many thanks to the staff at Wavendon, the staff of S.D.E. who helped out but mostly to the players, our customers, who once again dug deep to raise such a significant sum for charity.
Keith Moore and Simon Willis are pleased and proud to announce the completion of the management buy-out of Thunderhill Ltd T/A S. D. E. This will now become a part of the S. D. E. Holdings group of companies, which includes S. D. E. Environmental Ltd, a new venture involving Sewage Treatment Plants and Pumping Stations.

Keith and Simon have been running S. D. E. together for the past few years and have put a package together to buy out the other shareholders. The plan for the future is to consolidate their position in the markets they are currently in and build a strong base from which to grow over the next 5 years.
They would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the S.D.E. staff and professional service providers for all of their help during the process.
A big 'thanks' also goes out to our customers for the support and good wishes.
The recent move to our new premises at Toddington road has made way for some staff changes. Warren Hebblethwaite, who has been with us for nearly four years and on the sales side for two and a half years, has been promoted to Depot Manager for the new Toddington Road facility.

Warren (seated) and Lee, reluctantly “posing” for the photo.
Lee Boyle has also joined the company as an external Sales Manager; he has much experience in heavyside builder’s merchants and will bring expertise to our staff during our push into materials that are more general. The first thing he will be responsible for is designing our range of block paving and associated products.
I would also like to welcome Scott to our team as an HGV driver.
I hope all the new people will be happy in their positions.
Keith Moore
S.D.E. are pleased and proud to announce that due to continued growth we are moving to a much bigger site at: Unit 3, 250 Toddington Road, Luton (Known locally as “Myrak” or “the old Wimpey site”.)
With much more space and a new trade counter we will be able increase our stock profile to include some more general building materials, tools etc.
The plan is, to move over the middle part of January and we hope this will not affect our service to our customers. We will be up and running and ready for business on Monday 4th February 2008.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish a happy and prosperous New Year to all of our customers and suppliers.
Keith Moore
Once again, S.D.E. have shown their commitment to local junior sport. We are pleased and proud to announce that we have become a kit sponsor for Bedfordshire’s U14 Rugby squad.
We would like to wish all of the lads a successful and happy start to their representative Rugby careers.
As previously mentioned, S.D.E. sponsored the kit for a five-a-side team to take part in an international tournament, which was held this weekend in the home of “Total Football”, Holland.

After a hard fought few matches, including a 3-3 draw with the hosts, we ended up in third place. Congratulations to all of the team, with an average age 39, who did themselves proud against some much younger sides and had some fun into the bargain.
This
year’s Dave Whitfield Memorial Golf Tournament went off with excellent
weather and a good turn-out. This was the Fifth time we have held this popular
event and many thought it was the best yet.
Dave Whitfield was our first employee and is sadly missed by all who knew him. Every year we collect for our charity, the Keech Cottage Children's Hospice, and this year our customers and guests kindly donated an amazing £700.00 for this worthwhile cause, making the day a huge success.
The winner of the main competition was John English of Carmac Construction, pictured here second from the left.

Spartan South Midlands Football League Premier Division team Biggleswade Town F.C. will be moving into their new “Carlsberg Stadium” in the next few months. We would like to wish them all the best.

S.D.E. is pleased to be a major supplier to the new ground. Working in close partnership with Marsh Industries, we have come up with a solution to the disposal of waste-water on the site. Taking into account the very high water table, a system of pumps and treatment chambers have been designed and expertly fitted by ground-worker Shuan Izzard.
Once again we have committed further investment into our transport fleet. It’s no use having the extensive stocks and competitive prices we always offer if we can't get it to you when you want it!
This significant investment, coupled with the recruitment of two new members of staff, only serves to improve the delivery service offered to our customers.
The board of S.D.E. are delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Willis as a director of the company.
Many customers and suppliers will already know Simon, who has been Manager of the Luton depot for the past few years. Prior to this Simon has worked closely with M.D. Keith Moore, since joining the S.D.E. in the very early days of the company.
Simon who lives in Cambridgeshire with his young family, is a keen golfer, pool player and enjoys a bit of a flutter. My bet is he will make a great success of his new role.
We would like to congratulate Simon on his appointment and wish him all the best with his latest challenge.

We at S.D.E. have, over the years, supplied materials to some prestigious projects. The latest of these has been the supply of drainage and kerb to our customer, Moulding Plant, on their recent job at White Hart Lane.

With tight access and time scales to work with, we arranged the delivery of channel drain, kerb and castings to work within Chris Moulding’s tight schedule.
Please take time to look at the new Environmental products page on this website; we have forged links with new suppliers, such as Marsh Industries, to bring you the very best in innovation from the environmental product sector.

Following the success last year of the S.D.E. sponsored Bedford Rugby U12. This culminated in leaving Twickenham with some silverware. We are proud to announce that we are again part of the kit sponsorship team for this year’s tour to Scotland. The U13 team have already won the County Cup and are into the final of the East Midlands Championship and are looking forward to a fun and successful trip north of the border.
S.D.E. has also, this year, entered a team into the Eurofives corporate football tournament, to be held in Amsterdam in October. Watch this space for updates.

Over the Easter weekend Bedford Blues U12 rugby team took part in a national rugby tournament at the Nottingham festival. This festival is well known and attracts the best of the countries mini and junior teams. The prize awaiting the 24 teams competing over two days was the chance to play at rugby union head quarters and only 8 of the hopefuls would get through.
Bedford, being drawn in a qualifying group, somewhat un-imaginatively named “the group of death”, had eight games in two days and finally came out winners of their semi-final against local rivals Olney. Thus enabling them to progress to the Bowl final at Twickenham on Sunday 28th May.
S.D.E. are proud to have been part of the kit sponsorship team that sent the boys off looking so smart and would like to wish them the best of luck for the big day. May be it won’t be the last time some of them step out on the hallowed turf.

The team ponder what they have achieved in getting through to the Twickenham Finals.
The
two “handsome” props proudly display the Bedford crest along side
the S.D.E. logo.
Congratulations to Bedford Blues U12’s and good luck at Twickers from all at S.D.E.
The new SDE deopt at Rushden is fully operational, offering the same high level of expertise, service and products that you have come to expect from SDE.

With a view to actively seek new customers to introduce to the S.D.E. way and improve our service to existing customers in the Northern part of our area, we are delighted to announce the opening of our second depot.
As from Monday 30th January 2006 we will be open for business from our new yard at Carr Bros. Transport Yard, Upper Higham Lane, Higham Ferrers, Rushden, Northamptonshire, Telephone 01933 461225. Please see the “Contact Us” section of this site for a map. With this new depot being so close to the A6, A45 and A14 we will be able to look after much larger areas of the South Midlands.
The initial idea is to replicate, or possibly improve upon, our Luton depot which has been very successful for 5 years. Starting with a comprehensive stock profile of plastic drainage and ducting, ductile and galvanised steel manhole covers and gully grates, geotextiles and associated products, and supported by our vast stocks at Luton, we will quickly add our full range of stock products and increase our portfolio to offer the full S.D.E. service.
The new depot will start with dedicated transport and a very experienced staff who will do all they can to offer the service, quality and competitiveness that is expected from a specialist, independent merchant set up to service this specific construction market.
I hope we will be hearing from you soon.
Keith Moore
In
compliance with our policy to constantly improve upon our service, we are
proud to introduce the latest addition to our fleet. This bigger, faster and
more reliable 'rapid response' vehicle can only be an asset to the company
and , of course, increase our effectiveness and efficiency to our customers.
